@facebook nobody wanted this. I don’t want to delete a AI slop caption when I make a post. Fuck AI and this stupid feature pic.twitter.com/pokWUK2tsK

Meta seems to have started quietly injecting AI-generated text into the posts you share on Facebook. And judging by the threads discussing the change, people are absolutely hating it.
Several users have noted that they’re finding forced internet slang plastered across their personal updates. The AI is inserting phrases like “totally glazing rn” and “bussin no cap” without asking.
According to multiple complaints, this is happening even when people just want to share a simple memory or a news article. The system just populates the text box with its own thoughts.
The problem is that the AI seems to be horribly misinterpreting the intent of posts. One user reported sharing a post about a child passing away from cancer. Facebook automatically added the caption “absolute massive w” right before it went live.
Another person shared a post asking for information about animal poachers. The AI thought “cuteness overload” was the right thing to say.
You can find threads full of these nightmares over on Reddit, where people are desperately trying to figure out how to make it stop.
As one user noted, they shared a simple memory only to find the AI had captioned it with “We are totally feasting today; bestie.”
In yet another thread, a user complained about the app adding “look at pookie” to a shared cartoon. They noted it makes no sense and is completely out of context.
That said, it’s not just Reddit where you’ll find discussions about the issue. People are also posting about the same problem on Facebook and X.
From what I was able to deduce, users are confusing the previously introduced “Allow AI-genereated titled on your posts,” setting for the option to turn off these automatic captions.
For starters, this is only meant for when you’re posting in a public group, not on your own wall. Furthermore, the setting isn’t even available widely. And it explains why even when it is present, some say it doesn’t work.
It feels like Meta has hit a rough patch in the past few weeks. Just recently, people were dealing with comments failing to load under their posts entirely. On top of that, there were recent complaints about the Facebook app crashing on Android whenever users were trying to watch a Reel or video.
Now, the platform is putting words directly into users’ mouths. Meta has not publicly addressed this new captioning feature yet.
For now, you just have to double-check everything you share before you hit the post button.
