Updates to Grok’s image and video generation capabilities are a weekly headline at this point. With the latest release, you can create your own custom templates on Grok. It works for photos as well as videos.

As posted by tetsuo on X, these templates are also shareable. You need to upload an image, and Grok allows you to create a template from it. It works for photo-to-photo, photo-to-style edit, and also for converting an edited photo into a video. Notably, video-to-video is absent, as some people have pointed out.

For now, it’s limited to the web app. Based on our testing, the feature is currently exclusive to SuperGrok subscribers on the web app. Standard X Premium and Premium Plus members do not appear to have access yet. The rollout also appears to be phased, because some posts on Reddit claim that it hasn’t shown up yet.

People have found many creative ways to express themselves already, either with experimental video creation or memes. However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. Some people report usability limitations, such as modification trouble with prompts and 6-second video limits with custom templates. The direct creation of 10-second videos using templates is currently not possible either.

xAI has also improved Grok’s video extensions feature. Since Grok can now access the original prompt or clip, you can naturally continue a video with consistent audio playback. It’s available on both the web and the app. If you create a video with the new custom template but find 6 seconds too short, the improved video extensions could come in handy.

Another issue with Grok is the low resolution of 720p when generating videos, which xAI will soon address by adding 1080p video support. You can read about that here.
