A strange visual bug has started showing up in Apple’s App Store, where some app icons are appearing with sharp square corners instead of the usual rounded ones. Reports started popping up earlier today, and it’s hitting a fairly wide range of apps, including Gemini, YouTube, ChatGPT, MyFitnessPal, Perplexity, and DuckDuckGo.
People shared screenshots of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, YouTube, DuckDuckGo, and MyFitnessPal, all looking flat and wrong in listings and update screens.
One early X post from @henricreates quickly racked up more than 34,000 views. He spotted it on AI apps first, then watched replies roll in, confirming YouTube was hit too. “What a bug,” he replied.
In my testing, the app icons were appearing just fine before I installed the latest iOS 26.5 beta 2 update. After installing it, I could replicate the same reports. Still, comments and reports suggest that it’s not limited to just the new beta. For me, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity icons were bugged, but the Grok app icon seemed fine.
Plenty of others are seeing it on the current public iOS 26.4 release and even 26.3.1. It’s not consistent either. One user said their friend had the square YouTube icon but normal ChatGPT. Another on the 26.5 beta reported only some apps affected. Viktor Seraleev posted about MyFitnessPal turning square in the US store and later confirmed it felt like a straight-up bug.
The r/ios subreddit thread filled up with the same screenshots and jokes about it being an early iOS 27 leak. Most people just called it ugly and hoped Apple fixes it soon.
Right now, it looks like nothing more than a small visual hiccup. A few users said they straight-up hate the look, but it doesn’t break anything.
Apple hasn’t said anything about the bug just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see how long it’ll take for it to be fixed.
Earlier today, I covered another odd App Store moment where Cal AI got yanked after a viral payment sheet post blew up. You can read that piece here.
