Roblox rolled out major changes to its marketplace policy recently. It applies to 2D avatar items, and creators face much stricter rules for uploading and publishing shirts, pants, and T-shirts. The company aims to boost creator accountability and curb misuse.
A fee of 10 Robux applies as the new upload fee for all 2D items. Publishing to sell will now require an active Premium 1000 or Premium 2200 subscription. Creators also have to pay a 10 Robux publishing advance. They’ve also added a dynamic price floor that starts at 5 Robux. These steps match some of the rules of the 3D market, though 2D remains more accessible. The fee for 3D uploads dropped from 75o Robux to 300 Robux.
For existing published 2D items, they must be linked to a Premium account before March 19, 2026. Non-compliant items will face delisting beginning on March 20. However, purchased items will stay in user inventories permanently. Roblox stresses that these changes were made to protect originality and safety, and that proactive moderation scans for violants.
However, community reactions remain divisive. Many creators worry that legitimate creators without Premium would be impacted negatively, and creators that aren’t presently active risk delisting of important items. Roblox must also address the problem of stolen designs being reuploaded later for low fees. Some people defend the new update as necessary to block inappropriate 2D content.
These changes also apply to Groups. Both the group owner and publisher must have Premium. Some people are hoping for a way to archive older designs, since they’re important to the game’s legacy. Roblox can’t seem to catch a break lately, since players are already navigating unfair bans and severe chat moderation.
If you’re a creator at the marketplace, you’ll unfortunately have to get Premium. I’m not sure whether this solution is the proper balance between safety and accountability concerns, but I’m hoping it’ll result in fewer violations and better quality.
