YouTube’s homepage has stopped working properly for some users. In the past few hours, multiple people have reported their home feed suddenly capping out after displaying only a few videos, sometimes as low as 3-4 total recommendations.
The problem isn’t consistent across accounts. Some users are seeing one row of Shorts followed by a single regular video. Others report their feed maxing out at eight videos, several of which are duplicates they’ve already watched.
A few have noticed their homepage is only serving up Shorts, playlists, YouTube Playables (the platform’s gaming feature), and promotional modules instead of actual video recommendations.
One Reddit user, TheBlindGuy0451, noted a pretty odd behavior: refreshing the page would add exactly one more video to the feed each time, something they’d never encountered before on any website. The homepage also appears to have lost its category filter buttons at the top, which normally let you sort by topics like Gaming or Music.
Interestingly, YouTube has been testing a feature called Your Custom Feed since late November 2025, which lets users type prompts to customize their homepage recommendations. The feature was designed to give people more control over what they see, powered by AI similar to ChatGPT.
One commenter on Reddit suggested that YouTube probably broke something while rolling out this experimental feature. “Can’t say I’m shocked that youtube broke something when they forced an update through,” the OP replied.
This homepage issue adds to a rough start for YouTube in 2026. The platform recently removed search filters including the “sort by most recent” option, forcing users to hunt for workarounds that were eventually patched. YouTube also quietly killed the list view for the Subscriptions page, replacing it with a grid layout that many found less functional. Both changes sparked backlash from users who felt the platform was stripping away basic navigation tools.
For now, affected users are stuck either refreshing repeatedly to load more videos or jumping straight to their Subscriptions tab to find something worth watching. YouTube hasn’t issued an official statement about the current homepage issue yet.
