Some YouTube users are reporting a frustrating change to their subscriptions page. The platform appears to be removing the list view layout option, forcing people into a grid-style format they never asked for. Multiple Reddit threads from the past 24 hours show angry users discovering that their preferred layout toggle has vanished without warning.
The issue goes deeper than just missing buttons. Users have relied on a URL workaround for years by adding “?flow=2” to the subscriptions feed link, which would force the old list view to appear. That trick stopped working too. One Reddit user described trying the link only to find “it just displays that boring grid layout” instead.
People are calling this another round of YouTube’s infamous A/B testing, where the platform experiments on random groups of users without telling them. Comments on a few threads mention getting stuck with a vertical layout that shows one video per line, mixed with shorts appearing every other row. Some users also noticed their feed no longer follows strict chronological order, with older uploads randomly appearing above newer ones.
The company has a track record of removing customization options that users depend on. They recently tested a two-column sidebar layout when watching videos that viewers hated, and the platform has been aggressively cracking down on background playback workarounds in third-party browsers. YouTube also ramped up efforts to block video downloader tools as part of its Premium push.
What makes this change worse is the lack of choice. Browser extensions like Unhook that usually fix YouTube annoyances might not work now, at least according to earlier reports.
One commenter said they cancelled their Premium subscription over this specific update, calling it the last straw after years of bad UI decisions.
The platform has been experimenting with this change for a few months now, since complaints about the list view disappearing popped up in December 2025. Given the fact the the change is now impacting more users, it’s possible that YouTube might be all in on the change and is rolling it out in waves.
YouTube hasn’t officially confirmed whether this is a permanent change or just another experiment. Based on past behavior though, features that disappear during testing don’t usually come back. The search function on YouTube has already become hopeless, and removing more user control over the interface isn’t helping the platform’s reputation.
