CapCut users now have a couple of reasons to be mad at the company. Apart from having to deal with the outage that’s preventing users from using the app properly, they’re also now seeing notifications about the app jacking up its annual Pro subscription from $77 to $179.99 starting February 20.

VTuber MIGI VT put the spotlight on the price hike in a viral post that racked up 2.8 million views. “Not only has Capcut been absolutely BROKEN for the past day and a half, but they’re increasing the pro subscription by A HUNDRED DOLLARS WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K!?!?,” they wrote.

This comes at the same time as a data center power outage has been disrupting services on both CapCut and TikTok.

Reddit users are equally livid. One thread on r/CapCut called out the company for “locking 1080p and 60fps behind a paywall” while hiking prices and offering “no apology, heads up or acknowledgment” for the week of issues.

Another post described it as “the DEATH of CapCut,” noting that other video editors export at 1080p and 60fps for free. This post got over 200 upvotes and nearly the same amount of comments.

Some users report even worse restrictions. One commenter on X claimed you now need Pro to export any video, even if you didn’t use premium features. Though it’s possible that this might be a glitch in the system due to the ongoing server issues.

Meanwhile, MIGI VT confirmed that while the app is back up for them, the search function remains down and all saved presets, effects, and transitions have disappeared.

As expected, this price hike and ongoing glitches in the app have people looking for alternatives. Tech content creator Techycutie pointed users toward DaVinci Resolve, which offers a free version with minimal restrictions and a one-time $295 payment for the full Studio edition.

Others are recommending open-source options like Shotcut, Kdenlive, OpenShot, and Olive, all of which run on Windows, macOS, and Linux without subscriptions.

Current subscribers who don’t agree to the new price by February 19 will lose access to Pro features. For creators who relied on CapCut’s ease of use for quick TikTok and YouTube edits, the $100 price jump feels like a betrayal.
