Grok’s Android app is getting ready for some major upgrades that should make the experience smoother for users who’ve been dealing with frustrating quirks. Lara Lu, who’s been spearheading Android development for the xAI chatbot, recently shared details about version 1.0.69 and the changes users can expect.

The app is getting visual refinements that give the interface more breathing room. The media detail screen is receiving what Lu calls a “face lift” with improved clarity and a more delightful video generation workflow. Beta testers have already noticed the polish, with some commenting that their displays feel roomier and cleaner overall.

Lu responded to user feedback about making it easier to copy image edit prompts, saying she’s working to incorporate that into the revamped media detail experience. She’s also looking into adding play/pause functionality after a user pointed out layout bumps when swiping between videos with multi-line prompts.

Apart from that, the latest update tackles several pain points that have been bothering Android users. Video downloads, which had been acting up for some time, now work properly. Users no longer need to rely on the share button as a workaround to save videos outside the app. Lu confirmed she fixed two specific issues in recent releases: videos downloaded while muted will now correctly exclude audio from the saved file, and Android 10 users should no longer experience broken video generation.

Meanwhile, separate reports indicate that Grok will soon feature a “Trending Now” section. This addition would bring curated trending topics directly into the app, giving users quick access to popular stories and discussions without leaving Grok.

Android users interested in testing these features early can join the beta program through the Google Play Store. Lu has been encouraging users to sign up for beta access to get new features ahead of the general release, which explains why Android updates have recently beaten iOS to the punch for once.

These interface improvements come at an interesting time, especially as X itself experiments with a cleaner aesthetic through its upcoming Lite UI option. Overall, the speed at which xAI is shipping updates for the X and Grok apps is impressive.
