Google appears to be exploring a new way for Pixel users to stay informed about their finances directly from their home screen. Evidence suggests the company is working on a “Finance Recap” feature for the At a Glance widget, a staple of the Pixel experience. This information comes from an APK teardown conducted by Android Authority, revealing clues within the code of the Android System Intelligence app.

The At a Glance widget is known for providing timely, contextual information like weather updates, calendar events, and traffic alerts without needing to open specific apps. Pixel phones actually have two versions of this feature. There’s the standard At a Glance found in the Google app, available on many Android devices, and a second, Pixel-exclusive version that is part of the Pixel Launcher and is permanently displayed on the home and lock screens. The potential Finance Recap feature seems to be intended for this Pixel-specific version, often referred to internally as SmartSpace.

According to the findings reported by publication, strings of code referencing “Finance information” and “Finance recap” have been spotted in a recent version of the Android System Intelligence app, which powers many of the At a Glance features on Pixel devices.

While the exact details of what a “recap” would entail aren’t fully clear, the term suggests it might offer quick summaries or highlights related to stocks or other financial data, rather than real-time, constantly updating figures. Google already offers a Finance Watchlist widget through the main Google app, which displays stock information for companies a user follows. The At a Glance integration could potentially tie into this or offer a more streamlined overview.

Just keep in mind that features that are uncovered in APK teardowns don’t necessarily make it to the public. They represent work-in-progress and could be shelved or significantly changed. Android Authority was able to activate a basic user interface for the feature, but noted it appeared quite barebones, lacking even a dedicated icon. The publication also pointed out that another previously spotted potential feature, sports scores within At a Glance, has yet to roll out.

Google has not yet made any official announcements regarding a finance recap feature for Pixel’s At a Glance, so there is no timeline for when or if users might see it appear on their devices. On the subject of At a Glance, some users have recently been noticing that the widget goes missing from the home screen. So let’s just hope Google works on fixing the bugs too apart from working on new features for the widget.
