Google is gearing up for a major Pixel release on August 13, and the excitement is building as more details emerge about the highly anticipated Pixel 9 series. A recent REL (Radio Equipment List) certification has shed light on two key models: the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

For a start, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold names have now been confirmed through a listing on Canada’s Radio Equipment List (REL) website. While the Canadian listing doesn’t reveal any specific details about the devices, it does offer a glimpse into Google’s naming strategy for its upcoming lineup.

The Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to be a larger version of the standard Pixel 9 Pro, aligning with Google’s previous “XL” naming convention for larger variants. Notably, Google hasn’t used the “XL” moniker since the Pixel 4 XL, instead favoring the use of “Pro” for the most advanced models.

On the other hand, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold represents Google’s next foray into the foldable smartphone market. It’s anticipated to be a successor to the original Pixel Fold, adopting a similar naming scheme as the other Pixel 9 models. This effectively clears the uncertainty that clouded the possible name of the next foldable Pixel phone, which most expected to be called the Pixel Fold 2.

The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL have already made appearances on the Geekbench database, hinting at some of their potential specifications. The Pixel 9, equipped with a Google Tensor G4 SoC and 8GB of RAM, achieved impressive scores in benchmark tests. Similarly, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, also powered by the Tensor G4 SoC but with 16GB of RAM, showcased its performance capabilities.

Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series is shaping up to be a pricey affair, with the potential for four distinct models catering to various user preferences and needs. The confirmation of the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold names further fuels anticipation for the official unveiling expected to take place on August 13.
