Google Fit users are experiencing frustration as the app faces yet another step tracking bug. Reports of incorrect step counts and the app failing to track distances accurately have surfaced across multiple platforms.

Based on reports we’ve come across, it seems the bug has been around for a few weeks. Fresh reports from affected users keep popping up every other day as well. Some claim the app tracks their workouts, but fails to track any steps. Others claim that while they do see steps being tracked, the numbers are way off than they should be.

Apart from reports on Reddit (1,2) and the Google support forum (1,2,3,4,5,6), we’ve seen several complaints about the step tracking bug in Google Fit on the Play Store too.

This issue echoes a similar bug that affected Google Fit a few years ago. While at the time, the bug primarily affected OnePlus users, this time around we’ve come across reports even from Google Pixel users. For users who rely on Google Fit to monitor their fitness progress, these malfunctions can be particularly disheartening.

While waiting for a fix, you can try basic troubleshooting steps such as checking battery-saving settings aren’t interfering with Google Fit. You should also ensure location permissions are granted. If that doesn’t help, try clearing the app’s cache and data or even reinstalling it. You can check out more troubleshooting steps on Google’s help article.

Keep an eye on the Google Fit support forums and subreddits for updates from Google or affected users. Hopefully, a more widespread fix will be on the horizon.
