Last week, Google unveiled Gemini, its powerful AI model. The company categorizes it into three distinct versions: Nano, Ultra, and Pro. Gemini’s integration has begun within Google’s ecosystem, with Gemini Nano already available for Pixel 8 Pro, while a custom-tuned Gemini Pro version has been incorporated into Google Bard. Now, Google is expanding the availability of Gemini Pro for developers and enterprises through platforms like Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.

Here’s what Gemini Pro offers for developers and enterprises

Gemini Pro offers an array of features including function calling, embeddings, semantic retrieval, custom knowledge grounding, and chat functionality. Currently, it operates with a 32K context window for text and upcoming iterations will feature an even larger context window. While it’s currently available for free, within limits, it will be competitively priced in the coming days.

Gemini Pro currently accepts text input and output. There’s also a specialized Gemini Pro Vision multimodal endpoint. It accepts both text and imagery as input and provides text output. Furthermore, Gemini Pro offers SDKs (Software Development Kits) for building apps. You can use the ‘Get code’ button to get the code for an app that can be used across multiple platforms. It supports platforms including Python, Android (Kotlin), Node.js, Swift and JavaScript.

Accelerate your development with Google AI Studio and Gemini

Google AI Studio is a web-based developer tool that enables you to create prompts. This platform also facilitates the acquisition of API keys, essential for application development. You can use this tool for free by signing in using your Google Account. Below are the key features offered by Google AI Studio.

  • This tool provides a capacity of 60 requests per minute, which is 20 times more than what other free tools offer.
  • By clicking on the ‘Get code’ button, you can effortlessly transfer your work to the IDE of your preference or integrate it into various quickstart templates across platforms like Android Studio, Colab, or Project IDX.
  • Trained experts thoroughly assess the API and Google Studio input and output within the free version. This will help Google to enhance and refine the product’s quality.

Use Gemini with Vertex AI on Google Cloud

Vertex AI allows developers to personalize Gemini with full data control. Moreover, enterprises also get the advantages of additional Google Cloud features that focus on security, safety, privacy, and data governance and compliance. Here’s what you get with Vertex AI:

  • Developers can refine and enhance Gemini using their company’s data. They can also add real-time information and extend its abilities to perform practical actions.
  • Developers can also create search and conversational agents powered by Gemini in an environment that requires minimal or no coding skills.
  • Google ensures that the data and intellectual property used within the software are secure and private.

Pricing details

As of now, developers can have free access to Gemini Pro and Gemini Pro Vision via Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. However, it is limited to 60 requests per minute which is suitable for most app development needs. Once Gemini Pro is generally available next year, developers will have to pay charges per 1,000 characters or image basis.

That said, developers and enterprises can now make use of Gemini Pro’s capabilities for their benefit. Additionally, Google is gearing up to introduce Gemini Ultra early next year, a version that will be capable of handling significantly complex tasks.
