New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on September 18, 2023) follows:

As the month of September unfolds, Google Pixel users have noticed that the anticipated September 2023 update has been delayed as it hasn’t yet arrived on their Pixel phones.

This isn’t the first time that Google’s security update has been delayed. A similar scenerio happened with June update and March feature drop as well, where Google failed to release them on time.

Usually, Pixel users expect their monthly updates to arrive on the first Monday of the month. This routine provided a sense of assurance to Pixel owners.

Google Pixel September 2023 update delayed

However, it’s past mid-September and there’s no sign of the expected update. This unexpected deviation from the schedule has left many users feeling frustrated as they eagerly await the latest security enhancements.

Here are some reports (1, 2, 3, 4) for reference:

Hi Everyone! Does anyone already have de September feature drop? Everytime I search for an update, it doesn’t find anything. (Source)

It is September 13 and my Google Pixel 7A with Google Fi has no monthly August update yet. Why is it near impossible to get a timely monthly update from Google ? And yes , I am each day checking Options -> System -> System Update (Source)

Google changed their policy of delivering the security patch on the first Monday of every month in April this year. And currently, there’s no specific date alloted for the update rollout.

While security patches are still released during each month, the elimination of a fixed release day has introduced uncertainty for Pixel users.

Moreover, this policy shift means that users can no longer rely on a specific date for receiving updates.

Furthermore, some Pixel users are speculating about the reasons behind the delay. With the release of Android 14 on the horizon, there’s anticipation that this could be a contributing factor.

However, we don’t have any concrete evidence if Android 14 is the reason for the delay. Unfortunately, Google has not officially acknowledged or provided specific reasons for the delay in the September 2023 update.

That said, we will keep tabs on the latest developments regarding this matter and inform you by updating this article.
