Discord has been changing the way it functions by introducing some major tweaks like the recent username system update.

However, it also borked and uncovered a few other issues. For instance, we highlighted how the update was restricted to the use of lowercase letters, which was heavily criticized.

Previously, the ‘Super Reactions’ new button location was also condemned by some. It seems that now a latest community guideline is causing uproar among users of the platform.

Discord restricting permanent invites to Community servers

According to reports, Discord users are angered by the latest guideline that restricts permanent invites to community servers only (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8).

It implies that servers that are not ‘Community servers’ or are Friend spaces will only be able to generate invites for up to 30 days. Resultantly, only community servers have the ability to create permanent invite links now.

Discord is restricting permanent invites to Community servers, so normal servers can only make expiring invites unless they enable Community in Server Settings 🤡🤡🤡

and honestly community servers are kinda fucking ass, they restrict random things for no reason and u cant disable any of it, so either ur server is more open to stuff but u cant have a permanent invite, or ur server gets more restricted by discord but u can have a single invite

Users have taken to Reddit and Twitter to share a screenshot that reads ‘Convert to a Community Server to unlock permanent invite links’. But this has seemingly raised concerns over a few things.

For some, the disapproval stems from the fact that there are several requirements that must be met in order to operate a community server. While others worry that smaller servers may be affected, making it hard for them to grow.

It seems that some users are also concerned about the stricter policies that are implemented when community servers are enabled. It includes rigid scanning of messages, images/videos that are posted and more.

It means discord can monitor all your messages and prevent you from posting certain images or videos if they don’t deem it “safe”. In theory it makes sense but when you actually use it and see how dumb it is, it’s not.
