Some PS4 owners recently reported an issue where they are getting error code NP-34958-9. Adding further to this, some new reports have surfaced where players are reporting another glitch with PS4.

As per the reports, some PS4 players have been complaining that they are getting ‘Can’t verify license’ error. Also, some people are unable to setup their account as primary.

PS4 ‘can’t verify license’ issue

Many PS4 players have reported that they are unable to verify their license and this is apparently related to the game getting locked.

They are getting an error with any attempt to verify their license that says ‘Can’t use this content. Can’t connect to the server to verify your license. Wait a while and then try again’.

Fortunately, there are some potential workarounds we’ve come across that can help you fix this issue. You can check them out below.

Workaround 1:

A Redditor has suggested a possible fix for this issue.

Apparently, you can use your phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot feature. Simply connect your PlayStation 4 (PS4) to the hotspot and set your account as the primary account.

Next, verify the licenses associated with your account. After completing these steps, reset the PS4 and reconnect it to your home Wi-Fi network.

Workaround 2:

What worked for me : changing my dns server to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (AND VERY IMPORTANT) deactivating the console as primary ps4. (Source)

PS4 can’t verify license

As if the aforementioned issue wasn’t enough, some players are reporting yet another bug that isn’t letting them activate their primary account.

Thankfully, a player has managed to find a workaround to fix this problem, as seen below.

It is important to note that both issues are closely related to the error code NP-34958-9 players are getting on PS4.

Basically, players encounter an issue where they are unable to verify their license on PS4. They are prompted by the console to set a primary account, but when gamers try to do so, they get the error.

Unfortunately, these issues haven’t been acknowledged yet. But we’ll inform you as and when we come across anything noteworthy related to this matter.

Update 1 (June 8, 2023)

02:38 pm (IST): Allegedly, the fried Sony PSN servers are being blamed for the occurrence of license verification and primary account issues.

To address this matter, PlayStation support Japan has promptly scheduled server maintenance for today. This indicates that the ongoing issues could potentially be rectified soon.

Update 2 (June 9, 2023)

10:31 am (IST): There’s a potential workaround that has helped some players resolve the issue:

if anyone wants help with NP-34958-9, try connecting your ps4 to your cell phone’s 4g, restore the licenses and put your account as the main ps4. it worked for me!

11:48 am (IST): Some gamers who got in touch with the support were told that the ‘Can’t verify license’ glitch is being investigated.

So, it appears that support is silently acknowledging the issue as they didn’t issue a public acknowledgement.
