Discord 'Soundboard' feature dividing opinions, some think adding it is a mistake

Discord is a messaging app that offers countless features. You can use it either to talk with friends or to create complete servers with different voice and text channels, among other possibilities.

For several days now, the Discord team has been testing a new ‘Soundboard’ feature. Now, it is reaching more users and feedback has started to emerge.

It seems that the Discord ‘Soundboard’ feature will require some tweaks going forward, since it is dividing opinions in its current state.

Discord Soundboard allows you to react with different sounds during voice calls. ‘Free’ accounts can use the sounds from each server’s soundpack, while ‘Nitro’ users can use different soundpacks across servers.

While some are loving the new feature, there are people who aren’t liking it at all. First, those who like the Discord Soundboard find it quite fun to be able to constantly use their favorite sounds.

Meanwhile, those people rejecting the new feature have multiple reasons. For instance, those who have not received the option are unable to make any adjustments related to it.

This causes situations like users being forced to receive sounds at full volume since they are unable to tweak it.

Also, there are users who fear that voice calls will become a constant ‘sound fest’ due to the potential abuse of the feature.

Others are disappointed that sounds can’t be controlled depending on the users roles:

There are even Discord Nitro users experiencing a bug where they are unable to use sounds across servers. Fortunately, the Discord team is already aware of this particular bug.

Similarly, the fact that users can’t upload sounds from the mobile app (only from the desktop client) is a bit annoying. Currently, the mobile app only allows you to use sounds.

To top it off, there are also people somewhere in the middle and they are not sure if they love or hate the new feature.
