Discord has recently undergone changes, with the latest being the addition of exciting new features like Activities on all platforms.

However, not all changes have been positively received including the ‘Gradient Color Themes’, new mobile app UI, and the ‘swipe left to reply’ feature.

Discord mobile app high data usage

Now, it seems there is a new issue where the Discord mobile app has abnormally high data usage (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

Some have reported data usage as high as 50GB in a single day. This is a monstrous amount compared to other streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and YouTube, which tend to use more data just in general.

The affected users claim that they did not use the app much during this duration except for some messages or viewing a video. So, the whole data consumption was done while the app ran in the background.

This problem has caused significant concerns for users, as it has consumed their monthly data limit in a matter of hours or days for some.

Several Discord mobile users have been left scratching their heads by this sudden rise in data consumption, which appears to be unrelated to any particular activity in the app.

There is no official acknowledgment yet from Discord support and we haven’t come across any workaround at this moment.

For the time being, we would suggest users abstain from using the Discord mobile app until this issue is resolved.
