Discord is one of the well-known VoIP and social media platform that lets users communicate and stay connected via calls and text messaging.

The company has been testing a new user interface (UI) or layout for its mobile app for the past few days. Unfortunately, it looks like some are not happy with the recent modifications.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), some Discord mobile app users don’t like the new app layout.

It is alleged that the new user interface (UI) appears to be similar to that of a generic chat application like Messenger or Twitter and is unintuitive.

The platform users also believe that if these changes are made permanent, then Discord will no longer be seen as a distinctive app like it earlier was.

Discord users are unhappy and have taken to the web forums to criticize the UI changes introduced in the testing phase.

A user on Reddit says that the new layout is quite a downgrade from the previously used design. They also added that even though the old layout was not that appealing, it was simple and fully functional.

Another user alleges that the Discord layout worsens with every UI update.

Discord, we use your app because it’s not like the others. Please don’t implement this bad design.

Some are of the viewpoint that the company should fix and enhance its own apps instead of making the layout or UI appear similar like their competitor’s apps.

Others (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) believe that the new UI simply looks bad. They also complain that the layout affects usability, especially for those who visit many servers on daily basis.

They also added that one is now required to constantly make more swipes in order to switch between multiple servers.

On the other hand, a section of platform users (1,2,3,4,5,6), are in the favor of the new layout and want the company to implement these changes.

It is also worth mentioning that the test includes an ability to switch between the new and the old layouts. However, we are not sure if this option will be included in the full rollout or not.

Notably, this is not the first time the company has received criticism over new app UI design.

12:03 pm (IST): It appears that the new layout is now rolling out widely as we have come across fresh reports (1, 2, 3, 4) from users who aren’t liking it.
