[Update: Error 132] World of Warcraft (WoW) crashing on launch for some Mac users after latest maintenance, issue acknowledged
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on January 26, 2023) follows:
World of Warcraft is undoubtedly one of the longest running MMO games. It has been live for over 18 years, and it doesn’t look like going to shut down anytime soon.
To keep the community active, the Blizzard team sends out expansions from time to time. The latest one was Dragonflight, of which we have already covered some issues reported by players (1, 2).
The game is not only available on Windows devices, but also on Macs. However, it seems that a recent update ‘broke’ World of Warcraft (WoW) on Mac, causing crashing on launch for some after logging in.
World of Warcraft (WoW) crashing after logging in on Mac
According to multiple reports, the World of Warcraft crashing issue on Mac occurs after players attempt to access their accounts.
After entering their login credentials, affected players just get a black screen, after which they are sent back to the desktop.

login problems on mac
Hi all woke up this morning and tried to login into wow on mac. It ran (presumably) the 10.0.5 update patch and since then have not been able to log in at all. When I hit play, the screen goes black (as if it’s loading wow).

Anyone else on Mac client unable to start the game at the moment?
Click play > black screen > crash.
Tried 2 repairs, restarting client, restarting computer, and am now doing a full reinstall. But it still seems to be an issue even thought the game is “playable”

Issue being looked into, potential workaround
The Blizzard team is already aware of the issue in question and working on it. However, there is no ETA for a fix yet.
Heya! We’re aware of an issue with crashes for MacOS devices and a current thread discussing it further can be found here.
In the meantime, there is a potential workaround that could help fix the issue, but some might not want to try as it involves downgrading the OS (to macOS Monterey).
Ok so I did what others have done. I installed OS Monterey after uninstalling and reinstalling the game, changing passwords etc…
I AM NOW ABLE TO PLAY…
I am on a 2015 MAC
I know a lot of you don’t want to change OS but I am now playing and the game is ultra smooth…

We will update this story once relevant new developments on the matter emerge.
Update 1 (January 27, 2023)
12:52 pm (IST): It seems that the v10.0.5 update brought another even more widespread crashing issue. This one is not limited to MacOS, but affects Windows as well (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
According to reports, the crashing occurs once the player executes an attack while in ‘Stealth’ mode. This ability is characteristic of some classes (such as Rogues and Feral Druids) and has the following effect:
‘Stealth is a level 3 rogue ability that prevents other creatures from detecting the stealthed player unless particularly close.’

Once the conditions are met, the crashing issue happens and the WoW player is returned to the OS desktop after an ‘Error 132’ error message pop-up.

That said, the Blizzard team is already aware of the issue and investigating, but there is no ETA for a fix yet.
Yes, that is a known bug, which is being worked on. No ETA for a fix at this time. ^JH
