Twitter, like any other platform, is always adding new features to improve the user experience. Similarly, the DM or Message button is a subtle but crucial addition that allows users to discreetly share tweets or messages.

But it’s not always likely that every feature is well-received by users. For instance, we previously highlighted how the ‘View Count’ and the ‘Related Tweets’ feature got heavily criticized by several users.

There are also cases when some features go missing and disappear suddenly. That’s exactly what happened with the ‘Circle feature’ some time ago.

Twitter DM or message button disappeared

The Twitter app received an update on January 23 that is causing problems for certain Android users, as the DM or message button has disappeared for them (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

According to reports, the latest version removes the DM button from user profiles. When you go to Twitter and click on a user’s profile, there used to be an envelope button to send a message, but it’s now gone.

Messages are still there in the DM logs, but this change has made it difficult to send direct messages to followers or friends.

To send a DM, users must first select the messages icon on the bottom bar, click button to compose a new message in the new window, and then select who they want to DM from a list of their followers.

This change has not gone down well among Twitter’s user base.

The iOS version got updated today, and it still has the DM button on user profiles, so this issue is limited to the Android version of the Twitter app only.

Things haven’t been the same since the takeover, and this is another concern to add to the growing list. We hope Elon Musk and his team take note of user feedback and incorporate it into the Android version.

That said, we’ll keep an eye on further developments and reflect the same here so stay tuned for more.
