[Updated] Google Home & Assistant 'routines missing or disappeared', issue escalated (potential workaround)

Google Assistant was born in 2016 as a new voice assistant for smartphones. Over time, the tool has become increasingly powerful and full of features.

Currently, Google Assistant is the ‘core engine’ of Google Home, the company’s home automation platform. All devices compatible with Google Home can get and perform Assistant voice commands.

‘Routines’ is one of the most useful Google Assistant features, although it has not been problem free. Users have reported issues such as routine setup options missing or being unable to add more actions.

Now, some Google Home and Assistant users report that their set routines are missing or disappeared, with no apparent explanation.

Google Assistant routines are basically a set of automated actions. These actions are executed once certain conditions established by the user are met.

According to multiple reports, the Google Home and Assistant routines already set by some users are suddenly disappearing or vanishing.

This means that affected users can no longer find their custom routines in the list. In some cases, the routines don’t disappear but just stop working, so the situation isn’t much better.

All of my created routines disappeared.

I’ve been using these automatic routines for years. They were there and working yesterday. They are all gone today with only the original, standard routines listed.

Google Home personal routines disappeared!

We have several custom routines we depend on, and overnight they completely disappeared from the Home app (and won’t work with the voice prompts set up).

I researched this and have tried reinstalling the Home app and making sure language settings are correct.

The problem seems to be on the Google servers’ side, since not even a complete uninstall and reinstall of the Google Home app helps to fix it.

Fortunately, a Google Product Expert confirmed that the issue has already been escalated to the development team. However, there is no ETA for a fix yet.

In the meantime, there is a potential workaround that could help you resolve the bug:

Found a solution. Some how after updating to android 13, Assistant used my secondary Gmail. I deleted it and re-added after and everything works again.

01:45 pm (IST): Google is reportedly sending emails to users stating that there’s a bug that may have disabled routines. Moreover, they are working to restore the affected settings.

06:08 pm (IST): Google support has acknowledged this issue on Twitter and confirmed that they are currently looking into it.
