Twitch recently rolled out its new app update for Xbox users on November 17, 2022. Following the update, the app mandated a view-only experience for the console.

However, it’s ostensible that a sizable portion of users is not particularly pleased with the new alterations made.

We have previously highlighted a similar state of users’ minds when other teams brought UI changes to applications like Duolingo, Gmail, and Spotify.

Twitch app update on Xbox faces criticism

And now, it seems that the new Twitch update on Xbox has come under the wrath of several users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) for its UI and other modifications.

The update introduced various features including the ability to go live directly from Xbox consoles. However, users noticed that it was missing some features and the controllers also auto turned off after 10 minutes.

Reports even suggest that the update keeps buffering and freezing the app on Xbox. This ultimately prevents users from streaming without the app crashing.

A number of users (1,2,3,4,5,6) are specifically missing the integrated chat feature which was replaced with the viewer-only experience.

The removal of the chat feature is quite disheartening as users can’t chat with their friends or other streamers anymore. Moreover, it has left them wondering why the team would ever remove such a function.

To make matters worse, it seems that the app update also broke the media remote functionality (1,2,3,4,5). It stopped responding after the update and even stopped working altogether.

Some users are also complaining that they are unable to play earlier VODs. It seems that the last 12 streams are the only ones available now.

No acknowledgment yet

Twitch hasn’t acknowledged the issue where the new app update has broken the media remote functionality. It also hasn’t commented on the matter where users are unable to watch older VODs.

However, the team is asking users to scan the QR code provided in order to continue their conversation on the mobile.

Hey Crossroads, I’m afraid this is not something we’re able to resolve on social. If you’re wanting to continue to chat, please use the provided QR code and continue your chatting via mobile.
Thanks 💜

The support team has also asked some users to get in touch with them so that they may carry out their general troubleshooting steps.

It’ll be interesting to note the further course of action taken by the team in order to solve the persistent requests from its users.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.
