Part of Nintendo’s franchise, Pokemon GO is a mobile game that uses Augmented Reality. Using the phone’s GPS to track players in the real world, the game lets players catch and train Pokemon.
Ever since its launch in 2016, it has become a worldwide phenomenon. In 2021, the title generated over $1.21 billion in revenue and had a playerbase of more than 71 million.
But despite the game being a commercial success, the frequent addition of new content and features often brings bugs and glitches like referral rewards not working or tracking and many getting random team or party in battles.
That said, Pokemon GO players are now facing a new issue where Snapshot is not working or registering (1,2,3,4,5).
Many are frustrated and say the problem prevents them from completing several research tasks, including the ‘Anniversary event research’ that involves taking snapshots of various Pokemons.
Here are some reports from Pokemon GO players complaining about Snapshot not working or registering.
Anyone else’s game not updating the “get snapshots of 5 different Pokemon” quest in the event research? I’ve taken snapshots of at least 3 different species (completely different Pokemon too – not in the same evo chain or anything) but it’s only saying I’ve taken a snapshot of 1. Is anyone else sharing this issue or is it just my game? Thank you in advance ;W;

Need to improve their customer “support”. A friend who I referred to the game had an issue with new friends not registering for tasks. He then had Meloetta snapshot not working – they spoke to him like he is an idiot.

Thankfully, Niantic Support has shed some light on the Pokemon GO Snapshot not working issue and shared a workaround that requires players to take a Snapshot of the Pokemon from their Storage and not wild encounters.
Sorry to hear that, Trainer! Please try taking the Snapshot of the Pokémon from your Pokémon Storage and check if the Timed Research tasks progress. Let us know if the issue continues! ^SM

It is interesting to note that a similar issue surfaced last year where players were unable to register Bidoof’s Snapshot.
Hopefully, the above-mentioned workaround fixes the problem for those unable to complete the research task. As always, we will be updating this space if we come across more information so keep checking PiunikaWeb.
