In the last couple of decades, only a handful of games have managed to capture the imagination of millions worldwide. Released in 2011 and developed by Mojang, Minecraft is one of those titles.

Featuring a procedurally generated world with virtually endless terrain, Minecraft allows players to build whatever they want.

But as is the case with the majority of online games, players often face problems such as Realms not saving progress and the game not updating to v1.19 on Xbox.

And now, Minecraft Bedrock players are reporting they are unable to redeem the free Java edition of the game. Many say they are seeing the buy button instead of the get button when trying to download the Java version (1,2,3,4,5).

Some have tried restarting their system and logging out of their accounts and back in but nothing seems to help. Here are some reports from Minecraft players who are unable to redeem the Java edition.

Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for Pc costs $29.99 despite already owning Minecraft for Windows. When I click redeem on the Minecraft Launcher (it says we own Minecraft Bedorck so we can get java for free) it then says buy for $29.99. My brother already did this on my own Pc on my account and it was free there. I checked my sister’s Microsoft store app and she does indeed own “Minecraft for Windows.”

I own Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, and I want to redeem Minecraft Java Edition. Microsoft claims that you can redeem a free copy of Minecraft Java Edition if you own bedrock. When I went to redeem my free copy, the menu says “Buy” instead of “Get”. I am on the correct account and I couldn’t find anything online to help. Did anyone else have this issue? If so, how can I fix this?

As it turns out, Mojang Support has commented on the matter and said that the developers are aware of the issue and are currently working on a fix.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is currently a known issue. The team is currently working on a fix that should fix the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience while we work on the solution! ^TK

But there is no ETA on when it will be resolved. Fortunately, we did come across some workarounds that might help players claim the Java version.

It requires users to reset the Microsoft Store app settings from Apps and Features. Alternatively, you can try downloading the game from the Minecraft website.
