Developed and published by Niantic, Pokemon Go is one of the most popular Augmented Reality-based games. Launched in 2016, it has more than 700 Pokemons as of 2021.
Based on the freemium model, Pokemon Go generated over $1.21 billion last year and had more than 71 million active players worldwide.
But as is the case with the majority of recently released games, players often encounter technical bugs and issues such as many Pokemons missing shadows and Team GO Rocket balloons not appearing or spawning for some.
While Niantic seems to be working hard to fix these bugs, Pokemon Go players are facing a new issue with Lure and Incense where spawned Pokemon disappears quickly (1,2,3,4,5).
Many were confused and wondering if the issue with Lure and Incense was on their end but soon found out they weren’t the only ones affected by the problem.
Here are some reports from Pokemon Go players complaining about Lure and Incense spawned Pokemons disappearing quickly.
So yeah, this is super annoying and I see it happen on 2 phones. Incense spawns remain visible if now been caught or tapped when in reality already despawned. So I think what I see is my actual spawn, but it’s not. I tap it and it plays the despawn animation. If I’m not mistaken, it even blocks the spawn I should have right now from spawning when it’s supposed to spawn where the deapawned spawn is still visible.

I had numerous incense and lure Pokemon disappear when I clicked them literally 5-10 seconds after they spawned. It wasn’t a case of me not clicking it fast enough. I would see it spawn, click another overlapping Pokemon trying to get it, exit that, click the correct Pokemon and it would vanish. It was completely broken. I’d estimate a third to half the lure/incense spawns just vanished and wouldn’t let me even try to catch them. Wonder how many shinies I missed because of it…

Thankfully, Niantic Support was quick to acknowledge the issue and said they are already working on a fix. They also shared a workaround that requires players to restart the game and set the device date and time to automatic.
Sorry for the trouble, Gareth! Our team is currently investigating the issue. Please restart the app and set your device date & time to automatic. Also, stay tuned to our known issue page (http://bit.ly/3zhvTw9) for more updates! ^SH
