Published by Niantic, the same studio that brought us the likes of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Ingress, Pokemon Go is another Augmented Reality based title.

Released in 2016, the game quickly went on to become a global phenomenon, generating more than $904 million in revenue last year.

But as is the case with every recently released game, players have complained about various issues such as the higher number of candies required to evolve Pokemon and incense not working for some.

And as if this wasn’t enough, many Pokemon Go players are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that Shadow Pokemon are missing shadows.

Some thought it was a problem with their installation and tried clearing app data and cache but it did not help. In the image below, you can see that Girafarig is clearly missing a shadow.

Here is what Pokemon Go players have to say about the missing shadow aura on Shadow Pokemon.

Caught this from a Rocket grunt, it even has the shadow bonus at the bottom but it doesn’t have the Shadow animation. I’ve never seen that before.

Many are now wondering if this is an intentional change. Thankfully, Niantic Support shed some light on the issue and said that they are investigating the visual glitch where Shadow Pokemons are missing shadows in Pokemon Go.

However, they did not share any ETA on when the problem will be fixed. Looking at Niantic’s track record, it looks like the issue might take a while before a patch is out.

Thanks for flagging, Trainer! We’re aware of this visual bug where Shadow Pokémon appear to be missing the Shadow aura. Our team is currently working on it. Please stay tuned to our official channels for updates on a fix. Your patience is much appreciated! ^PD
