Original story (published on February 10, 2022) follows:

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are some of the best devices money can buy right now. Featuring Google’s in-house developed Tensor SoC, both devices come with Android 12 out of the box.

Despite the snappy hardware, the software experience has been not so great for users. Some have reported multiple Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile network connectivity issues in the last few weeks.

Having said that, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also support the C-Band 5G, a technology that bridges the gap between sub6 networks and mmWave technology.

It is aimed at providing speeds faster than both LTE and sub6 without requiring the expensive hardware majority of the phones need to connect. But a few days ago, Verizon said that neither of these devices are currently ‘fully certified’ and are hence unable to use the C-Band as of now.

The technology gives users faster download speeds and was only available on the Samsung S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, iPhone 12, and the iPhone 13 till now.

As it turns out, the Verizon C-Band 5G is now enabled for users running Android 12L Beta 3 on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

While some say that users will need to install Android 12L Beta 3 for the band to be enabled, others say that flashing the radio firmware from the 12L image does the trick and that they don’t need to enroll in the beta.

FYI: If your phone is OTA unlocked you can flash just the radio image from 12L and don’t have to enroll in the beta.

This implies that the only thing preventing Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners from using the Verizon C-band 5G was software. If we look at the official statement from Verizon to The Verge, the network carrier said that the Pixel 6 series will soon get C-band support.

However, they did not share any timeframe on when it will be enabled for those running the stable version of Android 12.

Nonetheless, we will be keeping an eye out on the matter and update this space if and when Verizon officially enabled C-Band 5G on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, so make sure you stay tuned.
