The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the latest flagship smartphones from the Mountain View tech giant. Both represented one of the biggest changes seen in the series in terms of features and design.

One of the most useful additions for fans of image retouching is the Magic Eraser feature. The new feature allows you to remove unwanted people and items from the gallery images.

Magic Eraser feature is integrated into the Google Photos app, which recently received an update. However, according to multiple reports, the new update ‘broke’ Magic Eraser on the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

Apparently, when users try to use the feature on their phones, the Google Photos app just crashes.

The most recent update to Google Photos arrived just a few hours ago. Since then, Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users are reporting the crashing issue when trying to use the Magic Eraser feature.

Magic eraser not working

So today I was trying to use the magic eraser and the app kept crashing. All other edit options are working just fine except magic eraser. I tried clearing the cache and user files from both the photo and Camera app, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Any suggestion?

Same thing, I rarely use this feature and today I realized it’s not working anymore. Apparently the latest update has caused this. Disappointed with google as they are really messing things up now.

Magic eraser is not working in my new pixel 6 pro. The app just keeps crashing. So annoying that we have to deal with so many bugs everyday.

According to reports from Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users, the Google Photos app update causing the crashing issue in Magic Eraser is v5.76.0.425427310.

I don’t use this often, but I checked and it seems I am on the updated version (5.76.0.425427310). I am having the same issue. Just took a picture to test and when I got to tools and hit “Magic Erase” the app closes and nothing else happens.

So, a potential workaround that could help solve the problem is to downgrade the app to the previous version (v5.75.0.425411882), where everything worked correctly.

09:39 am (IST): The Official Google Account on Reddit confirmed that a fix has been released for this issue and asked users to update the Google Photos app to version 5.76.0.426251772 or higher from the Play Store.
