Fortnite, the successful battle-royale, is available on many platforms. Not only can it be played on consoles and PC, but it can also be downloaded on mobile devices (Android/iOS).

For some years, Fortnite has been compatible with crossplay. This feature not only matches players from different consoles (such as Xbox and PlayStation), but also console players with PC players.

Ever since cross-play became available, many Fortnite players have been complaining about the matchmaking system (SBMM). Apparently, it matches experienced PC gamers with casual console gamers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

The above was even covered here in 2019. Since then, players have been suffering from the same situation, with no hint of a change from Epic Games (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

But, now, for the first time in years, Epic Games could be considering making Fortnite cross-play an optional feature.

Fortnite forced cross-play complaints persist to this day

While related complaints have been out there for years, Epic Games hasn’t made any change. So, players suffer from the issue to this day, as recent reports indicate.

A what moment epic game was thinking it’s a good idea do a forced crossplay, i am pc/switch and i just think at switch players hit sweaters with 160-300 fps on their 30 fps… Crossfinger for see that sh** leave next season and got our platforms lobby back (switch with switch ps4 with ps4 and other).

I agree that console players shouldn’t be forced to play with PC players who have an extreme advantage. I see it more with Playstation than Xbox. i’m not trying to play the FNCS, I just want to have fun with my friends. it’s a huge problem and does need to be addressed.

It seems that the advantages of PC players over console players are too many. So, the system should not pair users from both platforms in the same match.

When I play with my PC players on my team, we get an obscene amount of other PC players and they have such accurate aim. They’re able to build/edit and shoot seemingly all at the same time. I have an Xbox Series X hardwired to the modem and I can’t get speeds that fast. PC players are on a different level. I agree with no forced cross-play.

Fortnite cross-play could be optional

Just a few days ago, Epic Games sent Fortnite players a survey. In it, they were invited to vote for their least favorite feature of the game, and crossplay was among the options.

This is the first time in years that the company has hinted at considering making cross-play optional. And, considering the results of the survey, this now becomes a close possibility.

However, for the time being, the company has not made a public statement on the matter. So, it only remains to wait and see if Epic Games offers related updates in the next few days.
