macOS Monterey Finder horizontal scrolling issue (view resets to last screen) persists for several users after 12.1 update
Named after Monterey Bay, macOS Monterey is Apple’s latest operating system. While the new OS introduces several new features and improves on existing ones, users say the software feels like an unfinished product.
And they are not wrong either. With several issues affecting those who upgraded to Monterey, the sailing hasn’t been smooth by far. Issues such as the one where Spotlight and Finder were crashing and Adobe Fonts overlapping for some are really annoying to deal with.
Unsurprisingly, a new issue has come to light. macOS Monterey users are now saying that the Finder app horizontal scrolling is broken. People say whenever they scroll horizontally, the app fails and scrolls back to the right and shows the last column.
If you are someone who has a lot of files on their device who uses the Finder app to navigate, this might prove to be really frustrating since it makes it impossible to scour through the files.
In case you are unaware, the Finder app on macOS is the same as the Explorer on Windows. It basically allows users to view the files stored on their machines. Users said they tried rebooting but to no avail.

macOS Monterey finder spring back horizontal scrolling
I have Monterey installed. Now there is a funny Finder behaviour where when scrolling horizontally in column view it will spring back. I attached a GIF. Anyone else having this issue? How did you fix it? Also, I noticed that the Back keyboard shortcut in Safari ⌘[ is not working only on Apple Communities. Is that happening with anyone else? I have been noticing a load of little behaviours like this.

Finder columns jump back to last column
When traversing through the hierarchy and I reach some column deep enough that the horizontal scroll is active in the window. Then when I want to go back to one of the first columns by scrolling horizontal, the window scrolls/jumps back to show the last column. I need to deselect the last objects (folders or files) to prevent the jumps. It’s like the window wants to keep showing the selection. It happens on 2 machines, since Monterey.

But with Apple yet to say anything on the matter, it is still unclear if and when the macOS Monterey Finder app horizontal scrolling issue will be fixed.
Rest assured, if and when they do, we will be updating this article to reflect the same so keep checking this space for more information. In the meantime, you can check out our dedicated macOS 12 bug tracker to see which bugs are currently affecting users.
