Battlefield 2042 is the latest version of the iconic FPS saga. It will be available from November 19, but for a few days for a few weeks it has been in beta stage.

Early players who tried Battlefield 2042 on PC are running into some issues when using a Radeon VII GPU, and under certain conditions (1, 2, 3, 4).

Battlefield 2042 crashes on Radeon VII GPU when Sundance Specialist appears

As in other similar games, Battlefield 2042 has multiple types of specialists to choose from. But, some players are experiencing difficulties when encountering one in particular: the Specialist Sundance.

To be more specific, the problem is reportedly happening to players that use a Radeon VII GPU. Basically, when they come across a player using Specialist Sundance, Battlefield 2042 crashes due to a GPU related bug:

Summarize your bug: Whenever I encounter the specialist Sundance in multiplayer my video driver fails and I crash to desktop. Every time. It took me a while to figure out while it was happening but whenever I have her in my frame of view and come within a certain distance my game will crash to desktop; this includes seeing her in the post-game screen if i somehow managed to avoid contact with her in-game.

Summarize your bug: Playing all 2042 game modes with specialists (but not old school classes in portals) seem to make the game crash with dx12 errors within a few minutes. This seems very specific to Radeon VII users with many posting on reddit with the same issue. Any game mode with the new specialists crashes, even custom portal experiences with bf3 classes and new maps work fine. The problem appears to be limited to the new specialists.

According to reports, the game crashes in any game mode when the condition is met. It happens anytime the Specialist Sundance appears on-screen.

This includes situations like third person view (after death) and post-game screen.

EA is already aware of the issue

EA’s support team responded to reports from some users. They confirmed that they are already aware of the problem, and it is under investigation.

Thanks for trying that & for sharing the link. Looks like we’re aware of these DX crash errors & are investigating right now. I’ll pass this along as well to help that process along. Please add your example to that thread & thanks for hanging in there in the meantime -Dan
