Original story (published on May 25, 2021) follows:

The stable Android 12 update release is still far away but users are already pushing the beta 1 update to its limits.

The recently released Android 12 beta 1 update offers a glimpse at what the latest OS update from Google might eventually bring.

However, beta software is usually full of bugs and the latest Android beta update is no exception.

To recall, early reports indicated that there are some issues related to crashing apps, double-tap on back gesture not working, and more.

Now, a couple of new issues have surfaced where the Pixel Live Wallpaper is crashing after sometime and the QS (quick settings) battery estimates are going off-screen. So, let’s take a look at these issues one at a time.

Pixel Live Wallpaper crashing

Google’s Issue Tracker acts as a haven for those affected with major or minor issues related to Android and other products from the tech giant.

The issue where Pixel Live Wallpaper crashes after some time has been starred on the Issue Tracker by a lot of Android 12 users. Also, user reports indicate that the device wallpaper reverts to a non-live one after the said crash.

Seems to happen with any live wallpaper on the Pixel 5 – “Come Alive”, “Living Universe” etc. Works as expected for a few minutes and then crashes and reverts to a non-live wallpaper.

Another user pointed out that enabling the Dark mode manually may be causing this issue as using the Pixel Live Wallpaper with scheduled dark mode works normally.

Bingo. It’s manual dark mode killing the wallpapers. I switched to automatic scheduled change and now have the live wallpapers up without issue. Will report back when it switches to dark mode on its own to see if it kills it again.

QS battery stats going off-screen

While this is more of a visual bug as it does not affect the functionality, several users have reported about this on the Issue Tracker.

Basically, the quick settings battery estimates are getting cut/going off from the right edge of the screen. Also, a user has pointed out that this bug occurs after enabling the WiFi calling feature.

I have experienced this but it only seems to appear when WiFi calling is enabled or possibly with Dual SIM configurations

Moreover, they have also suggested that it might also appear in case of Dual SIM configs. It is possible that this issue might be related to the number of items/icons appearing in the quick settings status bar.

However, this is still based on our speculation as not much details have been provided on both issues in either tickets.

Fortunately, both issues have been escalated to the relevant teams for further investigation. So, the upcoming Android 12 builds might address the said bugs.

We have shared this with our product and engineering team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.
