Apple TV 4K issue with crackling/popping noise in movies after tvOS 14.5 update likely to get fixed soon
Apple recently released the sixth generation of Apple TV 4K which also bagged the latest tvOS 14.5 update.
While the tvOS 14.5 update offers a lot of improvements, users are facing audio related problems after the update.
As per recent reports, some Apple 4K TV users are facing crackling/popping sound issues after the tvOS 14.5 update.
Also, users have said that the issue does not occur while playing music, audiobooks, and streaming TV.
@AppleSupport when using home sharing to watch movies / tv stored in iTunes via home sharing there is a clicking noise in the audio. Affecting AppleTV 4K (tvOS 14.5) iPhone 11 Pro (iOS 14.5) iPad Pro (iOS 14.5) MBP (macOS 11.3) no clicking before updates
It seems that the latest tvOS update does not include support for movies with certain audio formats which is why users are facing this problem.
Moreover, a Reddit thread suggests that the issue has been around since the tvOS 14.5 beta program.
It is possible that the tech giant might have already started working on a fix for the crackling/popping noise issue.
This is because an affected user reported that they provided Apple Support with the copy of one of the movie files on which the issue occurs and Apple Support was able to understand the issue.
So, a fix for the said issue might arrive in a future tvOS update if the user’s report is anything to go by.
However, all this is still based on speculation as Apple has neither provided any information on the matter nor acknowledged the issue so far.
A Twitter user has said that downgrading from tvOS 14.5 to tvOS 14.4 resolved the crackling/popping sound issue for them.
Another user reported that Apple Support replaced their Apple TV 4K because of this issue which did not occur on the replaced unit as it has tvOS 14.4.
This further indicates that the issue might indeed be with the tvOS 14.5 update and the tech giant needs to address it.
AppleTV HD affected when upgraded to tvOS 14.5 but when downgraded back to 14.4 the clicking vanishes any clues? Have large currently unwatchable library of movies and tv shows.
Hopefully, Apple acknowledges the said issue on a wider scale and addresses it soon as it is causing inconvenience to users.
That said, we will be back with more details as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.
