New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 12, 2021) follows:

Sony began rolling out the Android 11 update for the Xperia 10 II towards the tail end of January in certain regions.

Like most other Android updates, this too was released in batches and was recently released to Xperia 10 II users in Japan.

A Japanese smartphone carrier — au — also confirmed the arrival of the update on March 04 for the Xperia 10 II (SOV43) model on its official website.

However, the carrier recently updated its official announcement with a notice claiming that the Android 11 update for the Xperia 10 II has been suspended.

According to details shared by au, the update apparently came with a bug that prevented a few phones from turning on.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether the update has been paused in other regions as well.

Moreover, we haven’t yet come across any reports from Xperia 10 II users which indicates that this bug is indeed only affecting a small portion of units.

This isn’t the first bump in the road for Sony’s Android 11 rollout. Earlier this year, we reported that the company may have delayed the release of Android 11 on the Xperia 5 II due to bugs and issues on the Xperia 1 II.

It later came to our attention that the update to Android 11 apparently removed the fingerprint functionality for some Sony Xperia units.

Of course, bugs and issues often pop up with new Android versions irrespective of the OEM. Luckily, most issues are fixed with subsequent updates.

So it’s likely that Sony will fix the problem and re-release the Android 11 update for the Xperia 10 II soon.

In the meantime, stay tuned to our dedicated tracker to know more about the availability of Android 11 for Sony phones in different regions.

Update 1 (April 22)

04:16 pm (IST): The Japanese carrier — au — has confirmed that it has started rolling out the Android 11 update for the Sony Xperia 10 II once again. The bug that prevented the phone from powering on after the update has been squashed.

Regarding the OS update of Android ™ 11 to “Xperia 10 II SOV43”, the OS update was suspended on March 5, 2021, but from April 20, 2021 to Android 11 very rarely. We have restarted with the corrected version of the phenomenon that the power may not turn on after the OS update. (Source)
