Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G/Mi 10T Lite/Mi 10i MIUI 12.5 beta update based on Android 11 goes live (Download link inside)

Xiaomi releases new MIUI updates just about every day. These are known as Nightly updates and they come as unstable as possible, meaning they are not fit for daily use.

For those participating in the MIUI public beta program in China, an OTA update is rolled out weekly, usually beginning Thursdays.

This build, although still beta, can be used as a daily driver albeit with some issues here and there. It is after this stage that mainstream users begin receiving MIUI updates in beta stable and stable versions.

Now, as part of last week’s Nightly updates, Xiaomi quietly upgraded the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G to the latest firmware available — MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 OS.

For the uninitiated, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G launched in China November 2020 following its launch in Europe a couple of months earlier as the Mi 10T Lite 5G whereas folks in India know this device as the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G.

Naming scheme aside, the beauty of having a Xiaomi device with a Chinese variant is the promise of timely software updates. Typically, MIUI development begins in China before spreading to other regions.

This means devices sold in other regions and have China variants tend to get MIUI updates ahead of others. This is because things become simpler once the China ROM is ready.

That said, the fact that the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G has just migrated to the beta testing channel of MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 implies that the device’s global variants should also move up the pecking order.

With development ongoing in China, owners of the Mi 10T Lite and Mi 10i can rest assured that MIUI 12.5 update isn’t too far for them. But of course, you can never be sure with dates when it comes to software.

We already anticipated the arrival of Android 11 update on the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. The firmware is also available for several other devices, details of which you can find here.

For Note 9 Pro 5G/Mi 10T Lite/Mi 10i users interested to explore how things are in the new world of MIUI 12.5 and Android 11, we also have the download link for the recovery ROM for manual installation.
