Amazon Prime HD streaming issue on multiple Xiaomi devices even with Widevine L1 enabled is a known bug, fix expected in future

While Xiaomi is all set to move on to the next big update – MIUI 12.5 -, MIUI 12 still remains elusive for some devices.

Software updates are mostly accompanied by some flaws that require the developer’s attention. Xiaomi is not only working on future upgrades but also seems committed to resolving ongoing bugs.

The company swiftly acknowledges these bugs and convey their status to users via platforms like a weekly bug report, MIUI bug tracker, feedbacks, etc.

An issue that recently arose in Realme 6 and Realme 7 where in spite of having Widevine L1 certification, users of these devices were unable to stream HD content on Amazon Prime was acknowledged by Realme in their FAQ session.

Realme also provided a workaround that should hopefully allow users to access HD content.

Now, similar reports are emerging where multiple Xiaomi devices including Poco F1, Poco F2 Pro, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and possibly more with Widevine L1 certification failing to stream Amazon Prime HD content.

In response to which the mod says the true nature of this issue is still unknown. He goes on to say that this issue is widespread with a number of other devices also being affected. Netflix HD streaming, however, has no affiliation to it.

It’s a bug. In fact, this bug is seen in many other devices. Not sure if it’s caused by something built on MIUI or with Amazon revoking permissions, but it’s already reported to the devs and they are already working on it. Note that this is not applicable to Netflix HD, since they have never really supported this feature even when Widevine L1 was available. It’s Netflix’s policies, and they”ll have to support it. Cheers! 🙂

Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 9S have had a horrible past with regards to Amazon Prime HD streaming. But with new Xiaomi devices coming to light now, the issue should reach higher authorities swiftly.

So, don’t worry, the issue log is already with the devs. So, be it a problem linked to Amazon revoking its permissions or something that got triggered on MIUI, a fix will surely arrive.

The Amazon Prime HD streaming issue now appears to be affecting both Xiaomi and Realme.

It’d be worth watching the developments and see how quickly OEMs and Amazon together bring a fix. Till then, Xiaomi users have no other option but to wait for either a fix or a workaround in the meantime.

With that said, we will continue to track more such ongoing bugs and issues. You can also find a compiled and continually updating list of Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 bugs and issues here.
