OnePlus staff hints at OnePlus 8T camera white balance improvements with a future update

“The best camera is the one that you have with you”. This is the rallying call for many Pro photographers when asked by novices for camera recommendations.

And for the most part, this is true. Modern smartphone cameras have gotten very capable over the years. So much so that anyone, except the hardcore photographers, won’t mind the camera quality on many of these devices.

Of course, there are the over-achievers like the iPhone cameras and the Google Pixel devices of the world but for the most part, modern smartphone cameras are pretty good.

The OnePlus 8T caused quite the stir when it launched. Being the first device to run OxygenOS 11 didn’t help as most people felt like it fell short of its OnePlus 8 Pro sibling launched earlier in the year.

One of the pain-points for this device was the camera, an aspect where most people felt that OnePlus cut way too many corners. The device’s camera was dogged with issues, many users complaining of quality and performance issues.

Renowned tech YouTuber, MKBHD, holds these annual blind smartphone camera tests which pits many top smartphones launched in that particular year against each other and lets users pick the photo they like the most.

In this year’s edition of the same, the OnePlus 8T lost to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra by a massive 95% margin.

In the closing remarks, the YouTuber points out that the devices whose cameras had a better white balance performance seemed to have faired better in the contest.

This has since led to a conversation on many OnePlus community forums, many users feeling like the device would have performed better had it been equipped with better white balance performance.

In response, a OnePlus staff member agrees and notes that the OnePlus 8T could get better with an update to improve the camera’s white balance.

i will pick o too, it looks more appealing indeed. for 8t, in this scenario, the white balance needs improvement.

Could this mean that users of the OnePlus 8T should look forward to an update that will enhance its white balance and camera performance beyond the issues that they’ve been facing?

We certainly hope so. At the time of writing, there were no specifics as to what this update will bring forth, but it can now be speculated that white balance improvements could very well be part of it.

OnePlus has often delivered value for money devices and seeing as the price has slowly crept up over the years, new OnePlus devices are bound to be held to the standards set by devices in the new price segment.
