Several frustrated users have taken to the forums complaining that they’re missing an option to cancel their free trial for YouTube Premium.

YouTube Premium is a subscription that provides users with ad-free video viewing along with the added bonus of YouTube Music at a pretty reasonable rate.

Not everyone is a fan of it though, and hence the complaints by users struggling to cancel the same.

About a week ago I signed up for the youtube music premium one-month free trial (though the welcome email indicates it’ll only last a total of two weeks??), but now I can’t find anywhere to actually cancel the trial before it charges me at the end of the month. I looked it up, and it seems a lot of people are also struggling to cancel it. Does anyone know if it’s even possible to do this?

I have a free trial and I can’t find the option to cancel anywhere. I’ve checked the Paid Memberships page on both YouTube and YouTube Music. I’ve also checked from within the apps. Only the Renew option is shown. I don’t know what to do. Any kind of help or guidance would be appreciated.

It appears that the subscription automatically switches over to the paid one at the end of the free trial, and there is no option to put a hold on this.

Now, YouTube does provide a section to access information about and make changes to a user’s subscription on both the mobile app and desktop site of YouTube and YouTube Music.

This section can be accessed by clicking on your profile at the top right corner and heading over to “Paid memberships” on YouTube Music and “Purchases and memberships” on YouTube.

However, for users that have opted for just a free trial, only an option for membership renewal is present with no cancellation option, for some reason.

What makes matters worse is the fact that Google automatically begins to charge users at the end of the trial period, as shown in the screenshot below.

If you are one of the users facing this issue, then try the workarounds given below. Hopefully, one of them would click.

What you can do to cancel your YouTube Premium free trial

1. Delete payment details: Google obviously can’t charge you if they do not have any of your payment details in the first place. You can pull off this genius move by heading over to the Google Payments center here.

Next, head over to the “Payment methods” section and hit “Remove” on any of your associated payment details. Then keep it that way until the renewal period passes.

2. Try clicking on “Renew”: Alternatively, you can also try out this method found by a user that has worked for a few:

To deactivate YouTube premium you need to click renew then click extend free trial. From there go back into the purchases and memberships, click on YouTube premium then you can click deactivate
