OnePlus as a company has been at the forefront of ensuring customer satisfaction. This, by building helpful tweaks into a near-stock Android custom skin, listening to users’ feedback and rolling out timely updates.

In fact, the OnePlus 8 series of devices got updated to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 within a month of Google’s own Pixel line of devices.

Today, OnePlus is among the few OEMs that have managed to roll out stable Android 11 software to some of its eligible devices, way ahead of industry leaders like Samsung.

We have an Android 11 tracker that’s been dedicated to keeping tabs on the development and deployment of this new version of Android by all major Android phone makers.

Even as this unfolds, the ugly situation that is how carriers handle their software updates, is rearing its unsightly head. Close to two months since the official OxygenOS 11 update hit the OnePlus 8 devices, T-Mobile is yet to avail this update to its OnePlus 8 users.

This means that device owners are stuck with an ageing software which not only deprives them of interesting features in OxygenOS 11 but also leaves them vulnerable to malware.

Well, in a bid to slightly lessen the blow to these users, T-Mobile is rolling out the November 2020 security update to its OnePlus 8 users.

This update which bears software version OxygenOS 10.5.23 brings general improvements and fixes, the November 2020 security patch and improved call performance, at least according to the changelog.

Needless to say, users aren’t exactly thrilled to receive this update as evident from their feedback on the community forums.

Last year, it took T-Mobile three months (September to December) to roll out Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 series of devices. If history repeats itself, users should expect the update sometime this month.

However, users who aren’t happy with how T-Mobile is handling the updates to their T-Mobile versions of OnePlus 8 units have the option to convert their devices to other regional variants, effectively putting themselves in the OnePlus update ‘fastlane’.

We really hope that carriers find a way to handle this update bottleneck that’s been a pain to users for ages now. Android as a platform has come a long way in terms of updates and it is time carriers got on-board.
