New updates are being added to the bottom of the story…

Original story (from November 9) follows:

It is the season of new Android OS updates and as expected, OnePlus is one of the most featured names at this point in time.

Google was the first to dish out stable Android 11 updates followed by you guessed who – OnePlus! The Chinese vendor has already updated both OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to OxygenOS 11.

Next in line is reportedly the OnePlus Nord before the OnePlus 7 series joins the party somewhere in December. Indeed, the company still has plenty of OxygenOS 11 development to do.

This development will not only involve migrating more devices to OxygenOS 11 for the first time, but also maintaining optimum performance of those already on the updated firmware.

This is where the latest OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro developments come in. The duo recently bagged an update to OxygenOS 11.0.1.1, tagging along October security patch, Canvas mode with no AOD integration, and more.

But according to multiple user reports, this update came with an unwanted guest. Apparently, those who switched to OxygenOS 11.0.1.1 are no longer able to use VoLTE and VoWiFi functions on their OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro sets.

I had VoLTE&VoWIFI functionalities working on my OnePlus 8 Pro before Oxygen OS 11.0.1.1.IN11AA (2020.10) update that I received yesterday. Before this update, I could see icons on status bar, and I could call over WiFi with flight mode is activated. Yesterday’s update made VoLTE & VoWIFI functionalities disappered after the reboot. Now I can’t use them. I’m on Turkcell network (Turkey). An 8 Pro owner reported that VoLTE&VoWIFI is working for Vodafone Turkey network after same update. Update have a bug for Turkcell.

After updating the software from version 11.0 to version 11.0.1.1, VoLTE and VoWifi are not working, and the option from the settings has disappeared. In the previous version, the service worked flawlessly. Furthermore, the option to choose 5g is not available in the preferred network settings at all. Has anyone found a solution? I will also say that I use the phone in the O2-CZ network. [Translated via Google Translate]

Looking at the screenshot below shared by an affected OnePlus 8 Pro user, there is still no VoLTE or VoWiFi despite enabling the functions in the settings menu. It also seems like 5G is affected in some cases.

At this point, it seems pretty obvious who the culprit is. In fact, this could partly be the reason OnePlus has already halted the rollout of OxygenOS 11.0.1.1 update.

In a small note added to the announcement post, a staff member points out that the rollout has been halted as the company continues to look into user reports, but there are no specifics.

Update: This update’s rollout is currently halted as the software team investigates some user reports. Thank you for your understanding.

Another reason for halting the rollout could be related to the mix-up that led to open beta testers receiving an OTA update that switched them to the stable channel.

If you happened to have received the OxygenOS 11.0.1.1 stable update over Open Beta 3, follow the steps below to avoid data loss:

For those that received the 11.0.1.1 update but haven’t restarted the phone yet, the software team has prepared a solution to avoid data loss:
– Install this apk. You need to install it after the update was installed but before you restart.
– After the apk is installed, run the application, click “KEEP DATA”.
You should now be able to restart the phone without losing your data. Still, we would advise to back up essential data before you restart the device.

Regardless of the reason, OnePlus halting the rollout of this buggy firmware should help reduce the number of affected OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro users. We will follow up and let you know when the bug-fixing OTA arrives.
