The gaming smartphone craze was popularized by the likes of Asus ROG Phone and Razer Phones. While these devices are phones first before anything else, they offer more than your daily driver.

Cooling systems that go as far as physical fans and other customizations that allow users to bring in accessories that massively augment the experience of these handhelds are the norm.

But then again, this approach arguably comes into the way of the basic designs of modern-day smartphones, meaning gaming phones have been condemned to a small niche of enthusiasts.

On the brighter side, many will agree that today, just about every smartphone is a gaming phone of some sort. Talk of high (90Hz+) refresh rate, top-end chipsets with huge amounts of memory and battery units.

The OnePlus 8T, for instance, fits the bill perfectly. It rocks a huge 6.55-inch 120Hz display, a powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset allied to up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

There’s a 4500mAh battery and support for up to 65W fast charging to juice it up on the fly and much more. According to the device’s official product page, “Your frame-rate won’t drop, but your jaw will.”

But for some OnePlus 8T owners, it looks like the frame rate has actually dropped. According to multiple reports in the community, there is missing support for 90fps gaming in PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG).

Dear Oneplus Team,
Please let me know, When will I can play pubg in 90fps on my Oneplus 8T?? After purchased 8t i am still waiting. I am really worried & dissatisfied. You guys promised us that you guys give 90fps pubg support with all 8 series. Then why only 8t is not support pubg in 90fps where 8pro supported. Both device have 120hz display. Really disappointed.??

I don’t see the 90fps option under smooth graphic setting for pubg global/korean version. Whereas it’s available in OnePlus 8. Is it intentional or someone can use this option? Please comment if anyone has achieved it in their OnePlus 8t device. Mine is 12gb variant and screen refresh rate is set to 120hz

As we all know that no other Android device can match OnePlus so as we know other 8series devices support 90fps so pls enable it on 8t.

This comes as a surprise given that OnePlus devices were the first to get support for 90fps in PUBG. If anything, some expected OnePlus 8T to come with support for 90fps in PUBG out of the box.

But going by the reports above, the 8T missed out on this feature. Instead, it should be added in the same manner in which other OnePlus devices received it.

A OnePlus forum community moderator distanced OnePlus from this issue, arguing that it is PUBG that needs to whitelist the 8T before the device can support 90fps gaming.

The problems lies withing PUBG and not OnePlus. They have to whitelist it. OnePlus can’t do anything.

And indeed, someone in the forum has shared a screengrab of the latest PUBG beta version running on an 8T with support for 90fps enabled. Granted, the option should be available for all 8T users pretty soon.

Just wait for pubg update on tomorrow. Mostly 90fps will be there. İt is already there in pubg beta version update

So, if the missing 90fps option in PUBG has been at the top of your list of frustrations lately, rest assured that this issue will be no more in no time, but we have no exact date.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
