[Update: Coming soon] MIUI 12 update for Xiaomi Redmi 8 & Redmi 7 series may have been delayed

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 26, 2020) follows:

For the past few months, Xiaomi has been rolling out MIUI 12 to its eligible devices and at this point, many devices that were set to bag this update have done so.

We have a dedicated MIUI 12 tracker that has been closely following this update and you can check it out for more info and download links.

Recently, we saw reports that indicated that Xiaomi was planning to wrap up this MIUI 12 deployment by the end of this month.

However, a few devices have not bagged this update yet. Sure, we have seen a few last-minute MIUI 12 rollouts but a number of eligible devices still remain.

Redmi 8 and its predecessor, Redmi 7, are among the devices whose update to MIUI 12 has proved rather elusive.

      Redmi-8

Back in early October, we saw an alleged MIUI 12 timeline for devices that were yet to bag an update to MIUI 12.

In the roadmap, it was alleged that MIUI 12 for the Redmi 8 and the Redmi 7 would roll out to eligible devices by October 22 and October 25 respectively.

Well, the updates haven’t hit the relevant devices yet. But those were unofficial reports anyway so that might have been expected.

But the questions remain; when will the Redmi 7 and Redmi 8 get updated to MIUI 12?

Well, an alleged conversation between a device owner and a Xiaomi support reveals that the Redmi 8 and 7 will now receive their MIUI 12 updates by the end of the year and not by October as was earlier rumored.

redmi 7 miui 12 before end of the year

According to the Xiaomi rep., MIUI 12 for both devices will hit the eligible devices before the end of the year. This is a pretty vague timeline that gives Xiaomi around 2 months to get the update ready.

This might not be the kind of MIUI 12 news that users of the Redmi 8 and 7 have been looking forward to but it is all they have right now.

Recently, we saw reports that the Redmi Note 8, another one whose MIUI 12 update hasn’t arrived yet, might get its update rolled out in November.

Users of the two devices might want to stay tuned to our dedicated MIUI 12 tracker to be first to know when that update drops.

      Update 1 (November 05)

While Xiaomi has not yet provided any official date for the rollout of MIUI 12 on the Redmi 8, new developments suggest that the update will be released soon. Head here to know more.
