Still no MIUI 12 update for Redmi 8 & Redmi Note 8 as devices bag MIUI 11 firmware with October/September security patch

Still no MIUI 12 update for Redmi 8 & Redmi Note 8 as devices bag MIUI 11 firmware with October/September security patch

MIUI 12 has been all the rage in the Xiaomi community for months now. But that is slowly fading as many devices set to bag the update have done so.

Initial reports suggested that Xiaomi was planning to wrap up this rollout by end of October and indeed, some last-minute devices have bagged the same.

Even then, there are still a few devices that are still eligible for an update to MIUI 12 but haven’t bagged the same.

One such device is the Redmi Note 8. MIUI 12 for this device has proved rather elusive and we have a detailed post outlining the current state here.

Early this month, we saw the Redmi Note 8 bag an update that we thought would be a precursor to the MIUI 12 update owing to its vague changelog.

A couple of weeks later and still, there’s no sign of MIUI 12 for the device. Recent reports hinted at the fact that this update might be delayed and users should check back in a few weeks.

As the wait for this MIUI 12 update continues, the Redmi Note 8 is today bagging yet another MIUI 11-based update, this time bringing an updated security patch level.

The Indonesian variant of Redmi Note 8 has just picked up a new update with the September security patch, the first non-Chinese variant to bag the new patch.

Below is the changelog for the build with software version number V11.0.7.0.PCOIDXM, up from V11.0.6.0.PCOIDXM.

      Changelog:

Updated Android Security Patch to September 2020. Increased system security.

This move could mean that other regional variants are also in line for a similar treat hence MIUI 12 might have to wait longer.

Should you want to manually install this build on your device, below is the download link.

Another device facing a similar fate is the Redmi 8. While the device is in line for an update to MIUI 12, that build could take a while.

Today, the Redmi 8 is bagging a MIUI 11-based update that brings with it the October 2020 security patch. The changelog is attached below.

      Changelog:

Updated Android Security Patch to October 2020. Increased system security.

      Redmi-8

This update is going out to users of Redmi 8 in China and the EU. Chances of this device getting another major update in the single week remaining to the end of this month are rather slim.

With that, hopes for a MIUI 12 update this month are pretty much out the window. Should you want to install this new October patch on your Redmi 8, here are the download links.
