OnePlus bundles several useful features with its OxygenOS skin over Android. One such feature is the option to Identify location information. This is built into the phone’s dialer application and provides the location information when on an emergency call.

This can be extremely useful for users to relay their location information to authorities if they find themselves in a sticky situation. However, the feature stopped working recently on the OnePlus 5 series and later.

Fortunately, the company has shed some light on why the Identify location information feature is no longer working on OnePlus phones. A OnePlus Staff Member took to the OnePlus community forum to provide users with more information regarding the matter.

According to the official post, the Identify location information feature is “temporarily unavailable due to unexpected developments.” However, it seems that OnePlus has fixed the problem on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 7 series.

Although, it appears the fix is currently only available via the latest OxygenOS Open Beta for the devices. Further, OnePlus will be releasing an update that will fix the issue for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 8 series as well.

The problem will also be resolved along with the upcoming stable versions for all the affected devices. Thus, users will receive an OTA update which should fix the Identify location information issue while making emergency calls.

Nevertheless, since the issue has been fixed for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 7 users, those who wish to use it can launch the Phone app — tap on the three-dots — select Settings — toggle on Identify location information.

That being said, OnePlus is also set to release its new OxygenOS 11 update based on Android 11. It will bring a host of new features and improvements. So keep an eye out on our dedicated tracker to know when it arrives on your device.
