Huawei took part in the early developer preview testing of Android Q with the Mate 20 Pro. Back then, though, the Chinese company was still in good terms with Google, until things changed following the Trump ban.

Today, Huawei devices still come pre-installed with Android OS, but no Google app or service out of the box. Instead, you get the company’s HMS. There are claims that Huawei may release EMUI 11 based on HarmonyOS and not Android 11. Could this be the reason no Huawei device is taking part in Android 11 developer preview program?

At this point, your guess is as good as ours. But what isn’t related to guesswork is the upcoming EMUI 10.1 update for Canadian variants of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, the company’s first device to miss out on Google apps and services out of the box.

Pre-installed with EMUI 10, the Mate 30 Pro has already picked up the newer EMUI 10.1 in multiple regions across the globe. But as usual with software updates, folks in Canada have been made to wait. This wait, though, comes to an end this month.

While announcing the availability of EMUI 10.1 in Canada and other regions, Huawei also promised to deliver this update to the Mate 20 Pro in early August. Indeed, the device should be receiving the OS as I write this. We can only hope the company maintains the same energy when it comes to the Mate 30 Pro.

No specific date has been put forward regarding the release of Mate 30 Pro EMUI 10.1 update in Canada, but as usual, we will keep tabs on the developments and let you know when the rollout begins.
