We have seen Xiaomi’s upcoming skin on Android, MIUI 12 going out to a bunch of its devices in form of a Beta. Also, thanks to the developer community, we have also seen the same Beta update being ported out to devices like the Poco F1.

At this point, we know a lot about this upcoming MIUI 12 update including details on which Xiaomi devices will get updated. We have a post on that and a list of all the eligible devices here.

With the official unveiling of the list of devices that would take part in the beta test for MIUI 12, naturally, users whose devices weren’t featured in the list were ridden with questions. Is this the end of the road for their devices as far as updates from Xiaomi is concerned? Will Xiaomi reconsider and add their device to the update list?

Well, Xiaomi did receive many such questions and the company has tried to clarify these concerns to as many users as possible on the forums. For the Redmi 5 Plus users, it looks like there is no point hoping for MIUI 12 as the device will not get updated.

To recall, the Redmi 5 Plus sold in the Global and Chinese market is the exact same device that is sold in India as the Redmi Note 5. In a reply to a user who sort to find out whether the Redmi 5 Plus would get updated, a Xiaomi moderator saysIt will not get MIUI 12.

This is very confusing seeing as the device’s India variant Redmi Note 5 is included in the official MIUI 12 list. Why this is the case, we still don’t know. We shall continue to follow this and update when we get further clarification from Xiaomi on the same.
