This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on March 20) follows:

Unless you are still new to Xiaomi phones, you probably know of the company’s devices sold in China have slightly tweaked software when compared to models sold in other parts of the globe.

Sure, there might be small differences in the software, but a larger part of it remains unchanged across the board. As you would expect, folks in China are usually treated to new features through software updates ahead of their global counterparts.

Since the software is mostly the same, Xiaomi simply picks the China ROM, makes some tweaks to it based on global requirements and starts seeding the OTA – a process that could take a couple or so weeks depending on the complexity of the task at hand.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
