One of the reasons Xiaomi sits among the elites in the smartphone industry is the number of devices the company is able to pump into the market annually. For instance, the Redmi Note 9 series is set to launch on March 12, a little over six months after the Redmi Note 8 series arrived.

In addition to the short device life cycle, Xiaomi also releases multiple variants of the same phones, sometimes for the same market or in other cases for different markets.

The 2018 Mi 8 series, for instance, has five different variants. The standard Mi 8, the Mi 8 SE, the Mi 8 Lite, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 Pro aka Mi 8 Pro UD, where UD stands for Under Display fingerprint scanner.

Android 10 has already arrived on the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 SE, and even the Mi 8 Pro UD, but it seems the latter’s initial rollout was pulled.

The Mi 8 Pro Android 10 update rolled out last month

The update arrived as MIUI 11.0.1.0.QECMIXM and bundled December patches, but now there is a newly-updated MIUI 11 build based on Android 10 for the same device, this time with the newer January 2020 security patches on board.

The update is arriving as MIUI 11.0.3.0.QECMIXM and tags along the following changes:

System
– Stable MIUI based on Android 10
– Updated Android Security Patch to January 2020. Increased system security.
Status bar, Notification shade
– Fix: Couldn’t open notification settings in the Notification shade in Second space

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
