It is refreshing to see carriers and phone makers pushing out updates to their devices. This was unheard of on Android just a few years ago. I guess this only goes to show how much Android has matured as a platform.

Verizon has been busy at work, working on the February patch updates for the Samsung Galaxy A50. You might remember the Galaxy A50 as one of the most popular and well-received devices of 2019 under the newly revamped Galaxy A-series of devices.

Verizon is rolling out the 6th System update to the Galaxy A50 on its network. The update brings the February 2020 security patch update and starts rolling out from February 20. You can identify this update by its software version; PPR1.180610.011.A505USQS4ATA3.

Also getting the February 2020 monthly security patch update is the Verizon Samsung Galaxy A20. This is the third system update from Verizon to the A20, after the December patch that came on December 17.

The update also brings the February patch and not much else, at least according to the changelog. This update can be identified by the software version; PPR1.180610.011.A205USQS4ATB1. This update brings the most up-to-date Android patches to the A20, bringing it to par with many other devices.

It is worth noting that this update brings with it the January 2020 security patch update. Also, while the phone is relatively new in the market, this is not the first update to the Poco X2. The first update rolled out earlier this month and among other things, it fixed the Pro Mode crashing issue. More on that here.

Yet another device that is getting an update is the Redmi K30 5G, the beefier brother to the Poco X2. This update brings a few enhancements as detailed in the following brief changelog.

Changes: Optimization: Increased system stability
Optimization: Reduced system lag

  • Device: Redmi K30 5G

You will recall that Xiaomi recently released the Redmi K30 5G’s kernel source code. This means it is only a matter of time before people start building custom ROMs for this device.

Here’s to hoping that more and more phone makers keep rolling out these updates to their devices, new and aging, in a timely fashion because in the long run, the user wins.
