Asus last month rolled out a new software update to the ZenFone 6, a device that is known in India as Asus 6z. The update, which arrived as firmware version 17.1810.1911.110, was pushed out to the global, Indian, and Japanese variants of the device.

The major highlight of the update was the newer security patch level for the month of November. It wasn’t the latest version available at the time, which is a big deal for a flagship device like the ZenFone 6.

Looking at the changelog attached to the said Asus 6z update (screengrab above), you can see that Asus included support for Wi-Fi calling for folks in Brazil. In case you were wondering, the Indian model also has this feature, only that Asus hasn’t enabled it yet.

When asked about why the Indian model doesn’t have WiFi calling enabled, Asus didn’t give out any concrete feedback, but that’s expected from the support guys.

But as it turns out, you don’t even have to wait for Asus to roll out yet another software update to enable the WiFi calling function like in the case of Brazil (although such an update is still expected either way).

Apparently, all you need is to dial the number *#*#3642623344#*#* and boom, you should get the WiFi calling option in your ZenFone 6 Call settings, as seen below.

Now that you have the WiFi calling option in the Call settings, you should be able to verify compatibility with Reliance Jio’s VoWiFi calling feature quite easily.

As it stands, at least going by findings from several Asus 6z owners who have successfully enabled WiFi calling, Jio’s VoWiFi calling feature works fine on the handset.

Asus is not the only vendor whose devices are having trouble working with Jio’s VoWiFi calling feature. OnePlus and Realme have a similar issue with their devices, but they’ve promised to fix it soon.

Xiaomi recently revealed a list of seven Redmi phones that support WiFi calling, all of which are also compatible with VoWiFi Calling on Reliance Jio. Of course, others should get this function via a software update at some point.
